A Rat's Life

Post by MC on Thu Mar 19, 2009 4:03 pm

"Oy, where you been mate? I thought you's dead already."

"Hoh, hoh, hoh, you're not gunna believe this'n buddy."

"What's that?"

"I been on the outside."

"What, in the living room all this time?"

"No, mate. The real outside. With real grass!"

"NO! You saw grass? Grasses are real?"

"Yeah, and dirt too and lots and lots and lots of bugs all over the place!"

"Dirt--and bugs everywhere you say? I thought they's all nearly extinct. This is incredible. You were really there? I can't believe the legends are all true."

"They certainly are. Everyone of them. Rocks, birds chirping--"

"Birds too? Oh, wow. This is a lot to take in."

"Sticks and tree and flowers. And there was water on the ground in these little bowl-like puddles. Didn't need to awkwardly slurp water from a tube out there, no. Water is all over the place. And you know what else? Food was all over the ground. Seeds and nuts and all the good stuff. Even a spoon filled with loads of peanut butter!"

"Ooooh! And us stuck in this rotting glass cage? I think I'm gonna cry. This is a cruel world we live in mate."

"Tell me about it. All I had to do was scurry out and grab some. The humans was there too, though and I could tell they wanted ter catch me up again. In the end they caught me lickin' up the peanut butter. But I couldn't resist the stuff. It was worth it."

"Oh, whoa is me... I'll never get to see the likes of heaven as you just did, pal."

"Nah, I got us a plan. I thinks we can get free of this here cage. This ain't what life's all about here. We gotta get back on the outside. Tonight when the humans is asleep."

"Okay. I like this idear."

(This story was inspired by our pet rats. My sons took one outside this morning and he escaped. I did indeed just catch him licking up the peanut butter, but he loves it too much out there to give his freedom up so quickly. He darted off again before I could grab him). Sad

LOL.. that is funny.

I put peanut butter in the middle of sticky traps if a mouse comes into our house. They can't resist peanut butter.

Then they are stuck!!!!

Very creative, MC! I had the voices of the Sopranos crew in my head as I read their dialogue for some reason.

Eh. I was going for cockney but that works too. Razz

Thanks. It was short and sweet. I thought about ways it could be lengthened into a full blown epic adventure, but I figured "Why? What's the point of doing that? Who would read it?" Lol.

Hey, there are a lot of people that would. It works! Ralph mouse, Ratatouille, Fivel, Mouse Hunt(<this one's more from the humans POV), I could think of many more.

I know some of those are movies, but they probably started as ideas written by someone. I had a lot of good times reading Ralph Mouse. Do it. smiling
