I listen to music while I write my stories. It helps with my concentration.

Guitar...playing 44 years. Classical, blues, rock, folk -- not much country and NO rap! You guys have probably seen my studio and guitar collection in my pictures on WF.org.

You don't like to play Crap?!
And here I thought we were going to be friends...
This would be a good spot to post a pic of your collection come to think of it.
You do have an impressive collection!
Re: The music topic
I actually like rap. ( I feel outnumbered!) If you listen to some of the better stuff, like Jay-Z, older Kanye, etc you'll see that its not all bad. Key Tracks: Kanye: Homecoming, Jesus Walks, Everything I Am.
Jay-z: Roc Boys, 99 Problems

Re: The music topic
Well...I don't really like rap either (sorry, Frayed) I'm more of a RocknRolla sorta girl, although I do love Alternative and Techno from time to time.
I play piano...have for almost 20 years; since I started taking piano lessons in the 4th grade. (YIKES, that dates me!)
And I love to dance to music...oh YE-ah! Nothing like a good tune and a dance to pick up my spirits. But, I'm like Jack, too. I like to write to music. The first four chapters of my novel were written to albums by "The Killers", "Anarchy Club", and "Cake".
My brothers are in a band ("Autumn's Review") and I wrote a song for them which turned out pretty good. It's on iTunes now, so I guess it's an okay bit of work! :)

I love to do everything while listening to music. Especially work.
And The Killers are the best! It seems like everything they record is a hit.
That's fantastic! Kudos.

Yes, I love "The Killers"... I and my iPod are inseperable! We go everywhere together. It's gotten so bad, I can't enjoy a smoke without it! Arrrrrrrrgh!

Re: The music topic
The other night at work, another worker mentioned that she thought someone was messing with a cell phone because she could hear music.
I asked her if she could hear my earphones and she said no.
She must have heard me singing along to Disturbed's Down With the Sickness.
There's no telling what she heard...

I Like Disturbed! My favorite album is "Ten Thousand Fists", although their newest release (Indestructable) isn't bad.
I'm also a huge "Avenged Sevenfold" fan. They have some really awesome music!
BTW~ Are you in construction, Gar? I kinda get that impression from what you've said about yourself...

Re: The music topic
I'm a cabinetmaker. Since '92. I just broke ground on a new house for the family and I. Muchly exciting! Work has been slow, so I took an evening job to fill in the blanks until winter is over. Winter is always a rough time for construction, and with the current economic downturn...
I've built a few additions, but never a ground up home. Should be an experience.
Yup. I love Disturbed. I haven't heard of Avenged Sevenfold though. Have to look into their music.

Yeah..my husband owns his own business. He sets tile. The economy up here in Montana has slowed down a bit too. Quite a bt actually, and winter is always a slow time. Fortunately, he is more into custom than spec...so he still is plugging along. The spec builders are really hurting now and a lot of them have left the country in search of work. There are just too many houses on the market right now.
We are thinking of relocating to Phillidelphia later this year. We have a friend who owns a flooring store there who says that work is consistent in that area because its so populated.
Hopefully we're nearing the bottom of this and the economy will pick up soon! Fingers crossed!

Re: The music topic
I don't play any music. I think I am the odd (wo)man out. I do not have an ounce of musical talent in me.
I do love music, and I write to music because it drowns everything else out. I also like to dance. Good exercise and it puts you in a good mood.
One of my favorite bands is Apocalyptica (I Don't Care, favorite right now though I like their other stuff too). I also like Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Mansen, jeez so many to name. I also like Pink (Sober my favorite from her right now)
My preferences revolve around rock, pop, I like some rap, I hate Kenya West (or however you spell it). Everytime they play his video (which happens to be every hour), I go on a frantic search for the clicker. Not a huge country fan. Though, I do like some of Taylor Swift's stuff. She is okay.

Re: The music topic
I play piano and harmonica by ear (because I hated learning music)--oh and I should add that I'm not one of those fancy experts at either. Listening to me play wouldn't be a pleasant experience.
I also enjoy singing--mostly harmony, as I do not have a lead singer voice.
And I've recently been working on finishing a couple of songs that I wrote 14 years ago. I downloaded Zulu software and have been recording with that. It's a fun artistic outlet. And I've been using it to teach my kids more about music. This morning we recorded "How Much is that Doggy in the Window" on six tracks, making our own instruments and dog sounds. You wouldn't have wanted to hear the outcome, but it was fun.

I play the piano, bongos, drums, and a mean air guitar! lol I love all kinds of music, depending on my mood. I'm an old headbanger so hard rock is probably my favorite genre. But right now I'm listening to vivaldi--just the mood I'm in.
Oh I'm not much for crap either. Sucks for me because I live in the south and have teenagers. It's a lose/lose situation.

Hahaha! That's great. Best instrument on earth! You can play it anywhere and no one ever complains.
I have a deep love for music and absolutely zero talent for it. And it would seem I'm the only one in my family for whom it worked out that way. Go fig.
My ipod was stolen from my car last weekend. Luckily, I have all the same music on my iphone. I listen to different music depending on what I'm doing (and whether or not my daughter is present), but I ALWAYS have music playing.
Recent favorites include Queens of the Stone Age, Ingrid Michaelson, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Joshua Radin, and Ben Folds Five.
I cycle, though. So my favorites will be different in three weeks. I like to rediscover my music.
