Hey all,

When were you born?

Don't give a year if you don't want to.

Heck don't give us the day.

Maybe just your sign.

I'm a Taurus.

My age? When my oldest daughter was about 5 years old, she asked me in a sweet, serious voice, "Daddy, did they have fire when you were little?" I told her, "No, but daddy invented it."

October 9th. I'm a Monday.

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child born on the Sabbath Day,
Is fair and wise and good and gay.

...Did you say 1984? Something about that number brings to mind George Orwell... Rolling Eyes

People born in 1984 usually respond, "George, who?" LOL

Was the movie any good? I read 1984 as an unappreciative 16 year old and later screamed my way through Animal farm. Same year I trudged through Catch 22, The Pearl, Of Mice and Men and Grapes sarcasm of Wrath. I wonder if I would like any of them better now? Did you guys enjoy any of those?

My 21st birthday is exactly one month from today.

Also, I hated Catch 22 and Grapes of Wrath in HS, didn't get the chance to read the others. I'm still not a huge fan of Grapes of Wrath, but as an adult I love all the others. (Sorry if it is thread hijacking- a "senior member" made me do it Razz )

I remember when I was "forced" to read Of Mice and Men. I ended up reading it twice!

Oh, man...that was almost 20 years ago.

Geez...stop whining...twenty five years ago is nothing! I had 4 kids, a big mortgage (that I wasn't sure I could afford), working 10 hours days in a career field I hated (insurance) just to keep the kids fed.

As far as Lennie and George, I found that story, along with most of Steinbeck's novels, to be big soap operas. As a boy, I lived in poverty. I never could figure out what people enjoyed about reading such terrible lifestyles. Maybe, it made their own lives seem a little better. All I knew as an adolescent is that I was ashamed of my family's standard of living. Hopelessness, suffering, low self esteem, failed dreams, contempt for the "slow" people. What the hell do people see in that kind of literature? My high school English teacher, in the early 60's, asked me why I refused to write a report about Of Mice and Men. I asked her why she wanted me to wallow in more misery than I already knew every day after school? She didn't understand . . . I took an "F" on the assignment.

Grapes of Wrath was another one. Same'ol-same'ol.

I'm not saying the stories were not well writtern. I could just never get past the topics. Oh . . . and it was 45 years ago! LOL

I need to read Of Mice and Men again to see if I enjoy it as much now (as an almost mature adult) as I did back then.

It seems to me that the last twenty years have passed by in a flash. Makes me wonder how quickly the moment will arrive when I look back and 40 or 45 years have passed and I don't know where they went... No

One word of advice from the looking back 50+ years . . . don't! That's right, don't find yourselves looking back 40-50 years and saying "what if". Chase your dreams now! Make them happen! I postponed many of my dreams for most of a lifetime to be a good "dad". Only now do I realize that I could have had my cake and eaten it too. If I had become an outdoor writer at 25 instead of 45, I'd be a full time author by now. Oh well, late is better than never! LOL

I was born in the last month of the seventies, a week before Christmas. Wanted to make it in time for the holidays. If I'd known I was about to enter the world of "the 80's" I'd have cooked for another 10 years.

I loved the 80's. The telecommunication revolution had yet to really hit and life was just a smidge simpler. Plus, asymmetrical hair! I was working the Flock of Seagulls look, hardcore! biggrin That was me, second from the left. LOL! Not really, that's the lead singer of Flock of Seagulls, but you better believe I spent half an hour every morning trying to emulate that hair-wing.

Haha.. I look like that effortlessly every morning.

I'll admit, without the eighties, there would be no Goonies. And that would be a tragedy.
