Job Listings. CAUTION! Empty Job Listings. CAUTION!

Here's a not-so-new scam that I just discovered on another website. People are going to sites like Craigslist and posting an ad for writing samples about various subjects. Then, after they get their STOLEN samples, they submit them to AC (Associated Content?) and get paid for others' work.

I guess I don't have to explain how badly this sickens me. If any of our members runs across this scam asking for a writing sample(s) in the hopes of making money, run away...it's most likely a scam.

Stealing writing samples on job listing sites

This is what one of these "offers" looks like. From the above site. mad

I've been applying for freelancing jobs, and I've looked up every site that has offered anything. I got this as a reply to one of them, which I thought was strange, because I didn't use Craigslist to fine them...

Hi Bethany!

Thank you for responding to our listing on CraigsList!

The response has been tremendous, so we have typed up this informational e-mail to give you more details about the opportunity.

We are currently looking for the following:

Article Writers (Paying $25 to $45 an hour)
Blog Posters (Paying $12 to $50 an hour)
Fiction Story Writers (up to $450 per story)
Non-Fiction Story Writers (up to $450 per story)

These positions are freelance positions under contract. You will be paid per article, post or story upon acceptance.

You don't have to be a 'natural born writer' to participate. If your English writing skills are good, you should qualify.

If you are accepted, you can accept as many jobs as you want. There is no limit to the amount you can earn!

If you are interested in applying, please visit our website:

http://www.InstantTypeJobs.com/

Fill out the online application to see if you qualify.

POSITIONS ARE LIMITED! We only have so many spots to fill. Once they are filled, the offer will be removed.

Thank you for your time and GOOD LUCK!

Haha no joke. It just makes me feel really sad for all the people who don't take the time to google these things before submitting their work.

No offense intended, but I don't feel "sad" for anyone who fails to do their homework when it comes to the internet.

Ha! Actually, that's a good point. I think people are just turned on by the money outlook and forget the common sense part.

I actually did have one legitamate reply. Their pay isn't "400-600 a week for doing easy stuff!!!!!", it's 2 cents per word for writing blurbs and introductions for web pages. Oh, realism isn't near as fun as fiction. sarcasm

Papers on desk get shoved aside . . . damn drink tips onto some onto a client proposal . . . scramble for paper towels to clean up . . . open left top drawer. Not there! Look quickly in lower drawers. Nope. Check top drawer on right. There it is! My calculator. Now, how many words at 2 cents each do I have to write to make $600. Click, click, click . . . oops . . . backspace, delete wrong entry . . . clilck, click, click. Voila. Only 30,000 words per week! LOL

Crap. If I was writing that much FINISHED copy, I'd complete a full length novel every three weeks!

Haha! Yeah. I already have a job, so it's more like getting definate feedback for writing more than the money.

The only way to get a good full time writing job is just to publish a damn book. Laughing
