What's that I hear?
Ahh... Silence.
A professor of mine loved the quote "Read widely, read deeply."
My daughter turns one tomorrow. In the last year, I have read a wide variety of ingredients on baby food. I have consumed the complete works of Doctors Sears, Spock and Stephanie Cave. I have deciphered language on the face of a wordless child.
The next year I will spend reacquainting myself with Palahniuk, Bukowski, Steinbeck and Salinger. I will have a late night rendezvous with Frankenstein's creature or greet the dawn with Gatsby.
I hope to awaken my taste for literature and ignite my enthusiasm for writing. Turn the clocks toward the wall, cuz I'm stayin' up late!
Looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome to the forum! Isn't that backwards? Shouldn't you consume the baby food and read the child rearing books? LOL. Cute.
I'm Michele. Hope to see you around the forum.

Did you get your love of writing and reading from your parents?
You have a lot in common with little-red-dress Venus and Coffaholic MC . . . both are raising young'uns.

Yes, you do have a lot in common with us. We'll have to start a thread for mommy rants...
By the way, Saulty, that's McCoffee to you, buddy.
LOL. (That's what Wreybies dubbed me).

Ah, you snuck up on me. Hello, Sarah.
I will inform you that your child will become a very good reader/writer with little speech problems if you keep it up! In fact, I bet if you start getting her interested, she can read by age 4, start writing by age 5, and start reading 1st-2nd grade literature by the time she's in kindergarten!
I actually learned how to write before I learned how to read...

I thought the same thing when I had my first child. I started my son out at two trying to educate him on the alphabet and it's sounds. We tried everything. I found out that it really just depends on the child. He just doesn't think that way and thus can't be expected to be a little Garmar or Colonel Marksman, lol. He's six now and still struggling to read. But he is advanced in literature comprehension and vocabulary, so I'm not worried about his inability to grasp letters and numbers like a genius. He's so creative in drawing, sculpting and composing stories (not to mention cooking). Each child is different, so don't be disappointed if yours doesn't read by four. It doesn't mean you failed or that your child isn't smart.

Sense a great retirement in your future, I do. Hmm? Hmm? Skilled children you have, hmm?
