Site got bugs?

I'm discovering via personal and PM messages some site issues. Mostly just annoying stuff.

One is PM notification. Are any of you waiting for PM's to discover later that it was there, but you didn't get a pop-up? Also, that new/no PM button on the homepage sucks. If you're waiting for a PM you might need to just check your PM box every so often. I did that and found a PM I had been waiting for unread.

Also, formatting issues in the Workshop. I was reviewing a story and had mad issues with the tags. It may be better to review in Word and copy/paste here instead of trying to do it in the reply box.

If anyone has any problems of this nature, post it here and I'll try to find a solution asap. I'm reading all the site upgrades/bug fixes available to find fixes for these issues.

Site bugs are like editing . . . sometime it takes another set of eyes to "see" the problems. LOL

Look at the bottom of Mike R's submission. There's also an 'edit' button offered to me at the bottom of his post and if you click it ( Twisted Evil

) to see what happens, it takes you to an offsite link with an Oddville Press ad at the top. Not sure what that's all about.

2. There isn't a category for making suggestions, so I hope you won't mind me making it here. I'd love to see a few more smileys. Here are my suggestions:

One that is just smiling--like the smiley on the smiley button.
I also really like the rolling eyes smiley from WF, it looks more like you're being kind of flippant and silly. I like this rolling eyes smiley too, but he appears more insecure about it and not as sarcastic. Both would be awesome.
And could we get a simple "mad" expression without the tantrum--for times when we aren't ranting we just want to show a mad face? Also, would love a "batting eyelashes" smiley...

Sorry this is turning out to be more of a christmas wish list... I'll stop. There's no rush. I know you're busy so don't feel like you've gotta jump to it. Laughing

I think that was some sorta mishap during a copy/paste. I fixed it.

I've been meaning to add/exchange better smileys, just haven't had time. Soon though! It takes an amazing amount of time to add them. I spent about three hours monkeying around a couple weeks ago getting most of the stupid ones out of here and adding better ones. Better ones imo anyway. biggrin

I went on our website's hosting forum for webmasters and posed this question and complaint. This was posted in a thread where others have mentioned the same issue.

They claim there is nothing wrong and when they visit others' site that are complaining of this, (there are many) they say nothing happened to them.

I'm sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused our members. It also makes one wonder how many potential members have been scared off...

Actually, my computer has frozen up completely on mor ethan one occasion when this stie attempted to impose popups . . . one of which has a guy shouting at me through my speakers!

If I was not a strong supporter of you, Gary, I would not return to this site. It's just too scary and intrusive, especially knowing that there is a major new virus set to trigger on April Fools day. If possible, I'd find another server/arrangement.

Tell your server company that!

Update

I think I have most of the problems taken care of for now. If you can't directly fix a problem sometimes there are routes around them. Wink

I would imagine many of you are noticing when you're logged on - no ads. I discovered a couple of tricks from other forumotion webmasters. If anyone finds any other issues please let me know.

This is not a big deal but every time I first open this site, the Forum icons at the left show me which categories have "new" posts. After I check one of the "new" posts, when I return to the main page, ALL to icons have changed to indicate that there are no new messages. Anyone have an idea what is the problem?

Yes, I have as well. Not all the time though. The issue is not consistent. Strange. Have yet to corner down if there is something that distinguishes.

I've been noticing weirdness with those icons also. Sometimes they don't even show up at all.

The nav bar buttons show up only half the time also and these are all issues that other site admins have brought up on the support site that have been deemed to be "non issues". I kinda find it irritating when half of the buttons function properly and I think it has a lot to do with server issues.

I thought changing the icons and hosting the images on a different site would help, but so far no such luck.

Are either of you using a program that either blocks or eliminates cookies? Don't know if that would cause any issues or not. I will watch for this to happen and look for it on the support site - although my experiences with them have been less than helpful so far because they tend to say they don't see an issue then lock the offending thread and tag it "solved". rolleyes

I've got a crap-load of protection on my computer and it might be the problem. Like I said, this is not a big deal for me. I just look for posts made "today".

This just happened to me also. It's happened before and I just didn't notice it. I usually read every post and now I remember missing some from time to time.

I'm digging into this issue, but no luck so far.
